Now that our kids spend their day at home, with online schooling and keeping safe from the current health situation, you may be wondering, “Aside from being in front of the TV screen all day, are there any other ways to keep your toddler physically and mentally busy while having fun?
Playing games is an essential part of childhood — well, let’s scratch that out — playing games is an essential part from childhood until we are adults! Playing can offer kids and adults alike a lot of benefits, such as a stress-reliever and physical stimulation.
When you tell your kids to play indoors, the current generation would typically assume that it involves playing video games or playing with their mobile devices. Turn your moments of isolation by teaching them the games of your time! Reminisce the fun you had during your childhood and pass it on to your kids! Here are some of the best indoor games that you can play with your toddler right inside your home!
Follow the leader
Take turns being the leader and follow each other’s actions until the follower makes a mistake! From jumping, crawling, patting your tummy, and even making crazy sounds using your own voice — the sillier the action is, the better!
Match the socks
Got a bunch of socks that need sorting? Well, turn this chore into a game!
Unpair some differently colored socks, lay them in front of your toddler, and encourage them to match the sock pairs together by color!
Browse through your family photos and print one on thick paper or cardboard. Cut it out into smaller pieces and have your toddler make up the picture by assembling it!
Hunt the teddy
Play hide and seek with a twist! Hide a teddy bear (or any of your toddler’s favorite toys) somewhere in the room that they can reach and go looking for it together. For younger toddlers who might find it challenging, you can make the Teddy “squeak” if your toddler is near them. Make a sound to indicate to your kid that they are almost there.
Nowadays, having our needs and wants to be delivered right to our doorstep has saved us a lot of time and effort. Give your toddler this experience by letting them open their own parcel!
Use some old newspapers and some tape to wrap up your kid’s favorite toys. They will feel the spirit of Christmas while doing this activity!
Do you miss going to the bowling rinks? Why not bring the fun of bowling to your home!
Prepare 10 empty water bottles or soda cans, a ball, and a space where the ball can roll, and you’re all set!
Pillowcase sack race
One of the most awaited events in most state fairs is the sack race! You can also experience exhilarating fun at your own home by using your pillowcases! Make sure that you don’t plan on doing this on a tiled floor because it might get too slippery! It is best to play this on a carpeted floor to ensure safety.
Build a fort
From cardboard boxes to pillows and blankets, there are a lot of materials you can use to plan out and build your own kingdom with your kids. If you want a storable material that your kids can draw and color for maximum decoration, you may buy large cardboard boxes in your local furniture store.
Turn these boxes into life-sized playhouses and cars and let your kid decorate and furnish them in a spacious area. If you are not able to find any large boxes, you can alternatively use smaller boxes, such as shoe boxes and cereal boxes, and make a mini-city out of it! Pretend to be giants for loads of indoor fun!
Choose some of your kids’ favorite songs and turn up the volume! Dance together until the music pauses. When it does, they have to freeze in whatever position you and your kids find yourselves in – even if you have one leg up! Kids absolutely love to dance in their favorite tune plus with the added game!
Hold a toy tea party
Gather all your kid’s favorite stuffed toys and hold a tea party! Give each one their own plastic cup and saucers for an afternoon tea delight. You can also whip up some real finger food such as sandwiches that your toddler can eat and “feed” to her guests.
After a delightful tea party, let your kid take care of her stuffed toys with these doll strollers!
