Children between the ages of 6 and 17 should be getting at least one hour of heart-pumping, aerobic exercise daily, with the addition of an hour of bone-strengthening and muscle-strengthening exercises three times a week.

Exercise for kids should be fun. Instead of "working out," think of it as "exercise play." Here are five easy and fun exercises for kids and tips to incorporate into your child's day.

  1. Running

One of the simplest forms of exercise that do not need any equipment is running. It is perfect for energetic kids to use up their energy for something beneficial for their bodies.

Let your kid run in your yard, down an unobstructed hallway, or even around a large dining table. For a more challenging form of exercise, spruce it up with some obstacles for an exciting relay race.

Running helps kids in developing strong bones while strengthening their muscles. It also helps develop healthy hearts, lungs, and coordination.

  1. Skipping

One of the most popular childhood games is hopscotch. It is fun plus it offers a lot of health benefits to the body and the heart!

Not only does skipping increase heart rate, work out the total body, and improve core strength, it's also an excellent workout for the brain as well. Skipping stimulates both the left and right brain, which results in improved functioning while improving balance and coordination.

  1. Indoor ball games

Got any balls laying around your kid’s toy box? Encourage them for a fun ball game! Playing games involving balls either indoors or outdoors is an excellent way to get exercise! These benefits include aerobic exercise, balance, and hand-eye coordination practice.

Here are some examples of games to play that involves a ball:

  • Tossing balls into laundry baskets
  • Hitting a target by throwing balls
  • Catching balls with a plastic mixing bowl
  • Throwing, rolling, or kicking a ball against the wall
  1. Bear crawl

The bear crawl is walking on all fours with the belly facing the floor. This movement is an excellent whole-body exercise that challenges kids to use their limbs and core.

Encourage your toddler to practice this movement during their first time of doing it, then work toward using the bear crawl in more complicated games, such as creating an obstacle course or challenging them for a bear crawl race.
